PhD in Material Science Title: ‘‘Study of self-assembly processes of different molecules for the design of advanced nano-materials’’, (Institute for Advanced Chemistry of Catalonia, PI: Conxita Solans & Carlos Rodriguez-Abreu). The PhD research was aimed at gaining a deep understanding of surfactant and colloids science. The thesis consisted on a systematic study of the self-assembly and phase behavior in water of non-amphiphilic cationic dyes (that form fibrilar aggregates) and hexosome-forming diglycerol based surfactants, and their application as templates in the synthesis of hard nano-structured fibers (with potential as electrical double layer capacitors and vapor sensing materials) and liquid crystal nanoparticles (for drug delivery). Achievements: • Published (as first author) 4 journal articles detailing my experimental work in field leading journals. Show less
