      My summer work consisted in evaluating the efficacy of PARPi-FL, a fluorescent probe with the capacity to target the Poly(ADP-Ribose) Polymerase, at labeling basal cell carcinoma (BCC) in human skin derived from discarded Mohs tissue. This worked was conceived as part of an interdisciplinary collaboration between the Labs of Dr. Manu Jain in Dermatology and Dr. Thomas Reiner in Radiology, and aimed at developing new screening assays for BCC for reducing the number of benign biopsies performed each year.       My PhD work in the Lab of Prof. Moungi Bawendi in the Chemistry Department focused on using semiconductor nanocrystallites, a.k.a. quantum dots, to create new imaging and sensing tools for biological applications. Specifically, I focused my efforts to develop new organic molecule ligands that lie at the interface, and modulate all of the interactions, between the inorganic nanoparticle and the biological environment.       My summer work at the Image Informatics and Computational Biology Unit, consisted on using computer-based image analysis to search for morphological biomarkers of aging in mouse skeletal muscle. During my internship, I automated a microscope that greatly enhanced the acquisition rate of images used in this study. I helped analyze these images to extract 1,059 morphological measurements from mice of different ages, diets, and genders.
