Bio
Paul Acquatella B.
I met José Ignacio during his internship with us at DLR and I was quickly impressed by his skills, his ability to learn difficult topics and his dedication to deliver great results. José was always very motivated and confident on his tasks and also brought to our institute a lot of enthusiasm and new ideas which he managed to execute and elaborate very quickly. Most of our discussions on flight dynamics and control topics were very interesting and he was able to formulate solutions and concepts that were also promptly implemented in simulation. José also managed to implement an efficient data structure to parallelize a multi-objective optimization problem on our cluster which he used to tune control parameters for a robust automatic landing controller. In that sense, he not only accomplished his goals during his internship but we also learned a lot from him. For all these reasons I can highly recommend José in his future positions as a researcher!

Participated in two projects: • Carried out state estimation of FLEXOP demonstrator aircraft. The platform is envisioned to improve the wing efficiency by implementing passive and active flutter control. • Designed, implemented and tested a novel robust automatic landing controller for over-weight landing. Its implementation would lead to a higher degree of safety, especially in the case that no fuel can be dumped. It avoids the dumping of fuel over land or sea, as well as the need of loitering in order to burn fuel, reducing the negative environmental impact. • Performed controller gain parallelized multi-objective optimization with computer cluster in order to comply with Monte Carlo analysis certification requirements.
