I had the opportunity to work with Jos for a time at Sportvision. I found him to be creative, self-motivated, and competent. I'd happily bring him in again given the opportunity.

Jos balanced technical breadth and depth in his position managing several vehicle development programs at Aerovironment. I was fortunate enough to be a part of his team on at least one project from conceptual design through test and analysis. Jos oversaw my simulation and analysis, leveraging it to guide prototyping, while freely sharing his experience in composites, fabrication, and flightworthiness in a productive feedback loop. He encouraged learning and creative experimentation without neglecting timelines, objectives, and deliverables. As a part of his project, I gained valuable experience in flight testing and composites manufacturing. His management style seemed welcome by those he led (both internally throughout multiple organizations at Aerovironment and externally through project partnerships). Eventually, with his tutelage, I took over some task management on the project and successfully achieved the project goals. I frequently pull from my memories working with Jos to guide my work today.

In 2012, I begrudgingly conceded to buying a case for my iPhone after breaking the previous one. I absolutely loathed this case and decided to design my own. I came up with the concept for Bezl by applying general principles used to protect military equipment, and evolved these to create an elegant and minimalist protector for smart phones. Together with my wife Anne we built a brand and company with sales in over 15 countries. We sold the company in 2015, and it continues on today. Bezl is the most minimalist iPhone case on the planet. As an engineering consultant, I had the opportunity to work with some great clients providing turn-key engineering services for projects that suffered from lack of internal resources. I was able to add value by recognizing the broad company needs and structuring appropriate development projects around them, and finally executing the project to a good outcome for the customer. I was fortunate to be at AeroVironment during an exciting time of growth for the Small Unmanned Systems division. When I started we had an R&D of 12 people, and by the time I left the SUAS R&D team had amassed well over 50 people and the Product Engineering team had reached over 80. With that amount of talent, we were able to develop some ground breaking technology in the unmanned space, that put AV in the market leading position it is still in today.During my time here, I led small teams of world experts in UAS, not only managing, but contributing technically as well with mechanical design, prototyping, flight tests, and domestic and international business development efforts to support my programs. Some of the significant contributions I led were developing the first production-ready water-landing UAS at AV (Aqua Puma -- first generation of the later AECV-UAS or RQ-20), and also long endurance electrical solutions such as novel chemistry battery testing, and developing fuel cell/battery hybrid power units.IEEE Spectrum Article: http://spectrum.ieee.org/computing/networks/dream-jobs-2006-special-report Show less

After building boats with my dad, Charlie Wolff taught me how to build airplanes. He entrusted me with the management of the composite kit manufacturing shop where I trained crew and was responsible for producing tooling and carbon fiber vacuum-bagged parts for the Velox Revolution and Rev2. One of the planes we built flew in the Red Bull Air Races piloted by Peter Besenyei. After building boats with my dad, Charlie Wolff taught me how to build airplanes. After High School, I stepped into the family business of boatbuilding. Over the course of two years we built "Calydor" -- a custom catamaran motor yacht. I apprenticed and learned in the trades of composite construction, ship carpentry, and ship systems installation. After High School, I stepped into the family business of boatbuilding.
