I had the pleasure of working with Jos during the second half of his PhD at Leiden University. His work on depletion zone isotachophoresis is in my view one of the major breakthroughs in modern-day analytical chemistry. The technique couples electrokinetics with nanotechnology and enables separation, purification, selection and reaction of charged (bio)molecules in one single instrument. It goes without saying that Jos is an intelligent person, a great conceptual thinker and a disciplined, hard worker. I am looking forward to seeing more of his work and are waiting for the day, that dzITP becomes a standard in any analytical laboratory.

Managing the development of a new industrial market application of the Medimate Minilab. The R&D trajectory included collaboration with partner MAVOM B.V., experimental design, signal analysis and data analysis (multiple and non-linear regression). This resulted in an alpha release of the product for field tests. Additionally, I worked on business plan development and grant proposals. Developing the FluidFM platform (a force microscope with integrated microfluidics) for single cell analysis. * "Tip-chip" device: extracting samples from single living cells onto a chip. The chip has an integrated sharp, hollow tip. I use the FluidFM to position single cells onto the tip, which perforates the cell membrane. Inside the chip, I can concentrate and fluorescently detect small molecules. * Force spectroscopy of single pathogens (Cryptosporidium) that are infamous for infecting drinking water Show less
