Memorializing Fairhill is a project that explores methods of listening, celebrating and honoring the stories and legacy from the Fairhill neighborhood located in North Philadelphia. This place-keeping initiative aims at utilizing public art as a vehicle to deepen community relationships while displaying the neighborhood’s own narrative and imagination in a creative process that involves local community members.Based on the oral stories captured throughout the process, the project will then translate these narratives into a map and 3-4 site-specific permanent markers, transforming them into high-quality aesthetic products that will engage new audiences in community-based settings and deepen community engagement with the neighborhood’s history and urban geography. Taller will collaborate with a number of partners to create this series of historical markers in public spaces in the Fairhill neighborhood of North Philadelphia tol serve as community identifiers, works of public art, and sites of collective memory. This project is an important building block in efforts to overturn negative perceptions of Fairhill, deepening the community’s connection to this place and its history. Inspired by the people, places, and events that give the community its identity, the markers will be connected to a large-scale map in the atrium of Taller’s El Corazón Cultural Center. Show less

The BYOP collaborated with two groups within the Latinx and Southeast Asian communities as a strategy to understand the role of institutions within the immigrant communities of Southeast Philadelphia. ● Managed a budget of $365,000 around several initiatives, including community driven projects and regular calendar exhibitions over a span of two years. ● Together with a committee of community leaders (La Calaca Flaca), I conceptualized, developed and implemented the two month long Día de los Muertos Celebration. The implementation of this festival involved the creation of culturally appropriate workshops, artist residencies, receptions, procurement of food and donations, craft fairs, live performances, and art installations. The festival has become one of the institution’s most important annual events and attracts around 1,500 people each year for the last seven years. ● Responsible for all aspects of year-round Exhibitions Program operations which includes: program development, event planning, graphic design, marketing material creation, jurying processes selection, educational programming creation, program budgeting, data entry, installation logistics, event calendar, and artist residencies. ● Reevaluated, developed and redesigned the Exhibitions Program’s mission to be more relevant to the surrounding diverse community.
