Zeytun Academic Exchange

  Zeytun is a grassroots initiative for durable academic exchange between the Netherlands and the Middle East for students of political science, international relations and diplomacy. I participated in an exchange program between ten Dutch and Iraqi students from the University of Kurdistan Hawler, visiting each other’s countries and participating in political, social and cultural activities. The program explored the theoretical and practical realities of democratic and autocratic governance in the Middle East and the Netherlands. The exchange visit to Erbil and Sulaymaniyah, Iraq involved two weeks of visits to various government and civil society organizations including meetings with government officials of the Kurdish Regional Government.
