Jordan is one of the most gifted developers of his age that I’ve worked with. He picks up new languages and methodologies quicker than the majority of developers with twice his experience and also has the enthusiasm to apply them every day. He’s a pleasure to work alongside and he’s always willing to go further than most to help individuals and the company, often without needing recognition for it.

I worked very closely with Jordan at Matillion. I found him to be reliable, honest, dedicated, efficient and have a genuine passion about his work in development. He will be a valuable asset to any company he chooses to join in the future.

Building Blocks is now part of a network of agencies called Dept. What this means is that I'm solving the same challenges, in the same place for the same clients, just with around 700 uniquely skilled colleagues instead of 70. Matillion is a rapidly growing Cloud Business Intelligence start-up company based in Knutsford, Cheshire. Matillion sell a “software as a service” web-based BI platform, which allows their users to create complex reports and drill down to analyse their data. My role included working on the flagship product Matillion BI,development of the in-house tools and systems, and work on the virtual servers used by the company. The work environment at Matillion is incredibly fast paced and Agile, with features and software often being pitched on a Monday, to be implemented and in front of a user on the Friday. This was invaluable for me, as I was able to learn a lot about technologies that are at the cutting edge, such as Amazon Web Servers and Redshift. My Java skills, database skills and indeed my technical skills in general were tested and improved upon considerably over the duration of the placement. There were a large number of challenging situations, and I was exposed to many technologies and practices that built upon my studies greatly. Towards the end of my placement I spent a lot of time teaching and mentoring the new placement students, which gave me a valuable new perspective of the company, as well as software development as a whole. Valour Finance Group is a medium sized debt management and loan brokerage company. I worked there part time whilst studying at college. My tasks at Valour Finance Group included the day to day maintenance of around 150 PCs, upkeep of backups and server replication, troubleshooting application errors and being solely responsible for the first line of IT support for the company. At the company I also had various projects that I was in charge of, such as creation and implementation of a reliable backup system, management of McAfee ePO 4.0, configuration of Windows Deployment System and various small tasks for the company’s websites involving Photoshop and Flash. Through balancing these projects with my day-to-day tasks I learnt the importance of time management, as well as crisis management to a degree. Show less
