    • Student Intern
      • Jan 2016 - May 2017

While at WVU I was involved in a prison exchange program that allows for a small group of students from West Virginia University to interact with select inmates at FCI Hazelton and FCI Morgantown (Federal Correctional Institute). This program allows for the exchange of ideas and perceptions about reintegration into society, families, and communities. It is a chance for participants to gain a deeper understanding of the correctional system through the marriage of theoretical knowledge and practical experience achieved by weekly meetings throughout the semester. • To create an environment that will facilitate the honest exchange of ideas in a dialogic format. • To provide an experiential setting for students to test and hone their theoretical understanding about various issues relating to re-entry. • To develop analytical capacities of those involved regarding various perceptions of and perspectives on these issues. • To furnish the residents who are involved an opportunity to explore their on views on these issues in an academic setting. • To assist all involved in further developing their capacities for both written and oral self-expression. • To create a connection between those on the inside and those on the outside.
