    • Junior Java Developer

I am a Junior Java Developer at Power Products. I have two big responsibilities as a developer described below, a quick description of my job would be that I take existing applications and rebuild them using modern software practices and create entirely new applications. All of the applications I have worked on are Java applications using the Spring framework. I am responsible for every part of the application from database design, to development, to deployment, to maintenance/support. The first, is to take existing applications and completely redesign them using higher standards of software design. For example, I will take an application that has existed for over 10 years where no one really knows what certain parts of the program do or are scared to touch certain things for fear of breaking others. I will start an entirely new project that will take every feature from the old application and replicate it in the new project. Step-by-step I will work with the business owner of the application and recreate the entire application with an entirely new, normalized database and modern software architecture. My other big responsibility is to create new applications for our warehouse. The current WMS being used at Power Products does not satisfy the needs of the warehouse so I will create various applications that assist them in their job. For example, one of the biggest and most helpful applications I've created is the audit application. Every shipment will go through this audit application and verify the contents of the shipment before being shipped. Show less

As an IT application intern, my current responsibilities include managing client reporting, organizing documentation, assisting with data transfers, updating build tools for pre-existing applications, minor architectural improvements to projects, and coming up with new ideas for improving work flow with various applications. During this internship, I have learned a lot about Java based web applications such as Spring and Hibernate. I've also gained a lot of communication skills by working with fellow developers on my team and talking to business owners on specific requirements for applications. Show less
