A graduate engineering role with a focus on Mechanical Engineering, based mainly in the HVAC and Service Provision Business Unit at Wabtec Rail, Doncaster. In this role I was involved mainly with Production Support and Project Engineering, gaining experience in technical report writing and professional correspondence in this role whilst broadening my engineering knowledge. Through working in the HVAC and Service Provision Business Unit I have covered a wide range of engineering including Mechanical, Electrical, and Systems Engineering, also learning new skill sets such as refrigeration principles and coaching stock service and maintenance. The service provision work that I conducted would allow me to travel to various rail depots around the country, gaining an understanding of the service regimes and the requirements of the depot environment. Daily activities included: - Production Engineering Support - Writing of Technical and Customer-facing Documentation - Risk Assessments and FMEA's - Engineering Modelling and Drawings - Bills of Materials and Project Costing

Through University I acquired a year work placement at Pirelli Tyres between my 2nd year and final year of study. I was based in the main laboratory at the Pirelli factory in Carlisle. Here I was a laboratory technician, working with materials and material testing equipment. My role as a laboratory technician was to test the physical and mechanical properties of materials that were to be used in Pirelli tyres, mainly rubbers and the reinforcing materials that ran around the radial tyre. Through testing the mechanical properties of particular materials I would create a properties profile for each material. Using these properties, feedback could be relayed from myself to the production management team, to inform them whether a specific material could be used in the production of Pirelli tyres.
