During this academic year, I worked as a Teaching Assistant for three different courses. Work included: attend lectures, prepare discussion section weekly plans, lead two-three weekly discussion sections, correspond daily via email with students and the professor, and hold regular office hours for students. “Introduction to Latin American and Iberian Studies” (LAIS 10 / Fall 2018)Taught by Dr. Emily Engel. The material in this class explores the broad history of Latin American regions and cultures from pre-colonial times until present, with particular emphasis on colonialism and the colonial legacy, hegemony, democracy, and resistance. “The American People: US History 1820-1920” (HIST 17B/ Winter 2019) Taught by Dr. Cody Stephens. The material in this class surveys US history from roughly the Jacksonian Era to the end of the First World War and focuses on significant shifts in labor, social ideologies, and institutions during this period. “Language, Learning, and Power” (LING/CHST 189 / Spring 2019). Taught by Dr. Mary Bucholtz. The material in this class looks at inequality in the U.S. education system, particularly as connected to students’ diverse linguistic skills and identity. As the course was cross-listed between Linguistics and Chicanx Studies, there was an emphasis on the linguistic ideologies related to Latinx and Chicanx communities. Show less
