The Royal Air Force has only one permanent Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron based at RAF Brize Norton. It operates worldwide aeromedical evacuation on behalf of all branches of the UK Armed Forces.As Service Delivery Lead – Aeromedical Evacuation ('Officer Commanding'):• Led a team of over 50 multi-disciplinary staff, including core and on-call personnel. Provided the operational management of service, including Critical Care, Mental Health, and Infectious Disease components. • Primary operational planning role in the evacuation of UK nationals: following Tunisia terrorist attack; in support of HMG support to Ebola crisis in Sierra Leone; and in response to additional UK contingency operations. • Project lead for Aeromedical Evacuation integration relating to new into service Royal Air Force transport aircraft, within broader Defence Programmes; the latter project was delivered 4-months ahead of schedule to meet urgent operational need.

Critical Care aeromedical evacuation is provided by Critical Care Air Support Teams (CCAST) based at RAF Brize Norton. CCAST provides care equivalent to that found in an NHS Intensive Care Unit including intubation and ventilation. I coordinated personnel, equipment, local policy, and assurance for Armed Forces Critical Care AE service. This supported the successful recovery of over 200 critically injured patients from UK operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.
