I was responsible for a portfolio of claims of the highest severity. I had a financial authority of £4m. Roughly 65% of my portfolio was handled independently in house. My portfolio has included some of the highest profile cases in the motor market. During my time at MIB I settled cases with combined reserves exceeding £159m; and paid in excess of £45m in damages to the victims of Uninsured and Untraced driving. I secured fraud savings of £7.8m. I also managed a portfolio of PPO claims. I was assessed as an exceptional performer (top possible grading). Aside from claims handling, I managed key operational initiatives. My work included: (1) redesigning the way MIB interacts with its panel lawyers; (2) developing a hybrid method of surgery based case progression (whilst only 29% of the organisation’s technical claims were included within my scheme; it was ultimately responsible for 73% of all settlements across the £100-500k valuation bracket); (3) developing a performance tracker for panel lawyers; (4) agreeing protocol agreements with key claimant firms across the market, covering roughly 50% of indemnity; (5) creating and implementing a system of proactively reaching out to prospective catastrophically injured claimants. Several trial wins, including a case featured in Public RM (the journal of ALARM). • Employers Liability: Defending various claims, including: trips and slips; manual handling; and work equipment cases. • Public Liability: Defending a wide range of public liability claims, involving accidents in schools, licensed premises, labour yards and others. • Fraudulent Claims: I was the first lawyer at Langleys to commence committal proceedings against a fraudulent claimant; a case which featured in local news (including the BBC). I was BLM’s first Trainee Legal Executive and joined as a school leaver. I ran a mainly litigated caseload of Employers’ Liability and Public Liability claims, up to a value of £50,000. I also ran a moderate pre-litigated case load. In addition, I gained experience working within the Children and Education team. My route into the legal profession produced interest and has seen me feature on various media platforms, including: the Sun; the BBC Leeds breakfast show; career magazines; online publications; and a CILEx promotional video.
