- Designed replacement Reactor Recirculation Pump seal hoist trolleys to remain inside reactor containment building for rated lifting and seismic loads as well as extreme temperature fluctuations. - Structural qualification of a 45/10 ton intake structure gantry crane for a nuclear plant in a special wind zone on the U.S. east coast. Responsibilities included calculation of custom box section properties, calculation of operating and hurricane wind loading, and bolt/weld connection design. - Evaluation of tornado missile barrier for seismic loads caused by added secondary barrier mass. Used GTSTRUDL for FEM model iterations, and design retrofit for welded connections that were not qualified for the increased loads. - Evaluated Reactor Containment Spray System ceiling ring pipe supports and containment steel liner for design basis loads. Applied loads included operating, seismic, and emergency loss of coolant accident pressures, and temperatures. - Modeled reactor containment steel framing using GTSTRUDL for response under unconventional loads caused by the removal of the reactor coolant pump. Designed retrofit for shear tab experiencing torsion and large bending moments. - Structural evaluation of drywell sump strainer system in a Japanese nuclear power plant.
