While in this position, I have expanded my graduate research by incorporating electronic recordings into the experimental design. We're investigating how people react when they think others are actively monitoring their decisions through a webcam. We're also interested in measuring any differences in decision making when people think they're interacting with a computer, as opposed to another person, while under stressful conditions. I was invited to present our findings as both a… Show more While in this position, I have expanded my graduate research by incorporating electronic recordings into the experimental design. The company's Point-of-Sale (POS) user interface had been less than ideal and was contributing to human errors that could otherwise have been avoided through the application of good UX principles. The process involved writing an internal company project proposal to justify the need for this research, followed by development of questionnaires, user-centric design recommendations, then low fidelity testing with iterative design updates. Preliminary testing of the updated UI design has demonstrated a reduction of near-miss errors by around 20%. Evaluations of post-update critical error rates were shown to rate the rate of order-remakes from about 3% to less than 1%. These changes also appear to have decreased frustrations experienced by all employees during busy hours and decrease overall training time. The new design can also serve as a blanket format for the POS of new business concepts, e.g., future food and beverage locations. Sample mock-ups are available on request. Thesis: Effects of Stress on Interactions with Artificial Intelligence as a Factor of Outcome Ambiguity I developed an online "Time Pressure Trust Game" to measure trust in automation and attempts to actively change an automated computer's activity while under variable levels of time-pressure. The program was designed to be compatible with the Qualtrics platform; thus can be mass-distributed to any number of subjects required by the researcher. The program was designed to be compatible with the Qualtrics platform; thus can be mass-distributed to any number of subjects required by the researcher. All variables in the game (e.g., amount of money returned by a computer, amount of allotted time, etc.) are completely manipulatable, to allow for variety of uses in future investigations on trust in automation. Contact me to try it out! We are currently in the process of submitting this work to the Journal of Experimental Psychology, and will publish the code there for use in future work. The lab plans to conduct physiology based experiments for the purposes of assessing biological changes in stress levels throughout the games. As a professional, I would love the opportunity to make other measurement tools that have a potential to answer a wide variety of questions about the way people interact with technology.

Objective: Improve managerial procedures by investigating factors of project affordability within NASA. I developed a strategy to explore NASA's "Affordability Culture" and managed project activities to collaborate with systems engineers as well as NASA Directorate. The end results of this project were methods and SOP to qualitatively and quantifiably measure the presence of “affordability subcultures” within NASA.
