As a postdoc at the School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA), I furthered my scholarly research and writing. I revised my dissertation into a book manuscript, "Contentious Rituals: Parading the Nation in Northern Ireland," which was published by Oxford University Press in 2019. I also wrote an article on elite attitudes toward provocation, which is forthcoming in the peer-reviewed journal Terrorism & Political Violence (http://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/09546553.2017.1289090).

Director of Research

Apr 2015 - Jun 2016
My overarching responsibility was to administer all the research and intellectual content for the Congress of Vienna 2015, a 3-day meeting on international cooperation and stability, attended by leading global thinkers, former heads of state, and United Nations officials. In that capacity, I coordinated expert workshops, wrote memos, edited commissioned papers on a range of global issues, and drafted the final report. An example of my work for the Congress is the Briefing Note attached below, which I co-wrote with Joel Bell, Chairman of Chumir Foundation for Ethics in Leadership. Show less

While based in eastern Sierra Leone, I led the field operations for the monitoring and evaluation of the IRC's innovative mobile phone-based real-time child mortality measure. I organized the nationwide recruitment, selection, training, and supervision of the project manager and a 8-person enumeration team. I also managed purchasing, transportation, and logistics in a challenging, rural environment. The mobile-based data systems I helped developed later proved instrumental in the fight against Ebola. Jun 2007 - Aug 2007
As a summer associate, I researched and drafted a scenario planning analysis on the national security implications of economic inequality and non-inclusive public service provision in Global South ("The Wealthy Opting Out: Implications for National Security Analysis"). I analyzed gated communities in Brazil, private security companies in South Africa, private healthcare in Russia, and private education in Pakistan to develop flexible long-term strategic plans designed to manage complexity in the geo-political environment.
