Total consumer expenditure on furniture and furnishings in 2017 was c.£17.5 billion, supporting 327,000 jobs across 50,000 registered companies. The British Furniture Confederation ‘BFC’ acts for the UK furniture, furnishing and bed industries and ensures that the industry has a strong and sustainable dialogue with Government. Its executive comprises the heads of the industry's leading associations ( BCFA, BFM, FIRA, FMC and NBF) and it also works closely with ACID, AMUSF and the industry’s APPFIG. Manufacturing turnover for the sector rose to £11.3 billion, emanating from 8,390 companies employing 118,000 individuals. Furniture manufacturing is one of the top three divisions driving manufacturing growth in the UK according to official statistics.
