At Ramaker and Associates, Inc. I had new and exciting opportunities to expand in technical knowledge as well as leadership. I designed and managed the structural engineering for hospitality projects constructed with steel framing, concrete flat plates and beams systems, specialty foundations, wood design, and cold-formed steel design. My role as a structural engineering leader allowed me to write proposals, lead as a structural engineer/project manager, and directing structural staff and assisting the architectural staff specifically on design of heavy construction types such as composite steel, concrete structures, and specialty foundations. I expanded my experience in designing materials such as 5-story wood construction, Florida hurricane flood and wind design regions, and in working in new locations throughout the country in both urban and rural areas. This work throughout the country expanded my knowledge in deep foundations and in designing with varying soil types including expansive clays. I designed and utilized Helical anchors, micro-piles, auger-cast-piles, drilled piers, steel driven piles, and soil improvements such as rammed aggregate piers. I continued work with historic renovations, steel and concrete design, and I have reached new heights with multiple mid-rise buildings, including a 12-story concrete flat plate hotel project. Ramaker specialized in not only traditional structural engineering but also in the wet and wild structural engineering fun of water theme parks.

GRAEF provided me over 8 years of extensive structural engineering breath. The projects that I lead as a design engineer encompassed areas in healthcare, education, governmental, historical restoration, façade, false rockwork, trash transfer stations, residence halls, parking garage rehabilitation, and various types of condition surveys. I designed steel framing, steel composite beams, steel truss modifications, concrete joists, concrete structural slabs, masonry and concrete shear walls, cold-formed steel, stone veneer anchorage design, condition surveys, forensic engineering, and theming false rockwork for theme park clients. At GRAEF I learned to use Revit in addition to AutoCAD by experience on the job and through outside classes. Many of the projects I worked on were large multi-year design projects and after only a short time I began leading other designers to complete various components of the project. In addition to design and Revit experience, I performed project management activities, acted as construction administration representative, developed project proposals, managed project budgets, had routine client and marketing contact, and completed various field, condition, and progress design report. I greatly enjoyed teaming with all of the project managers at the Wisconsin Department of State Facilities, the top local and national architectural firms for these state projects, the great contractors around the state, and at least most notably to the non-building professionals, with Universal Studies and the theming rockwork company, Nassal. During my time at GRAEF, I also made several presentations at professional organization conferences, for project interviews, and project design charrettes.
