Giro d'Italia Big Start 2014 Project Administrator
-
Apr 2014 - Jun 2014
I assisted in the planning and management of the Giro d’Italia Big Start volunteer deployment and recognition events. This ranged from admin support, managing a sign in centre and compiling information to be used for coordinating agencies (e.g. PSNI). As part of this I also managed our volunteer database and communications to include general enquiries, mass communications, press releases and event briefings. Post-event I produced an analysis of attendance data and supported the delivery of our evaluation survey. A particular achievement was devising a system to assign volunteers with for their deployment to one of over 1700 locations. Show less

Joining a company which specialised in e-commence in the run up to Christmas gave me additional experience in a new field. Quickly learning the company's systems and procedures, I used a number of databases to process and dispatch orders. Furthermore I was responsible for authorising payments and promoting products and services through social media. As part of my role I also carried out customer aftercare to resolve problems and request feedback. Corporate Communications Intern
-
Oct 2012 - Sep 2013
Seizing the chance to gain experience in the public sector I joined the HSC Graduate Intern Scheme. During my placement within the Corporate Communication team I acted as liaison between Belfast Trust and various stakeholders (the DHSSPS, elected representatives and the Media). Working with senior members of staff, I responded to Assembly Questions, Freedom of Information requests and correspondence on behalf of the Trust. This involves conveying complex and sensitive information in an appropriate manner. This included preparing and issuing statements to the press on behalf of the Trust. As part of my role I also completed the following projects: • Researched and drafted Trust communication policy. • Created communication plan for Trust’s Smoke free initiative. • Created and updated content for Social Media and Website. While I was with Belfast Trust I extensively gained from the training they offered. Show less

Taking up a new position allowed me to work more hours while studying. This allowed me to apply my retail and customer service skills in a new environment. After spending my initial time integrating into the team and learning new shop protocols, I was soon given more opportunities and responsibilities. This included till reconciliation and closing up shifts. After returning from a secondment opportunity, my role changed to include tasks. These included supervising staff and stock management. As part of this change in role I led the redesign and implementation of a new tills procedure manual. I led the training of new staff using the new training programme. Further to this I also implemented a temporary system for stocktaking high value goods, elements of which were retained in the permanent system. Show less

Communications Assistant
-
Jul 2011 - Feb 2012
Seconded to the Marketing department on the recommendation of my line manager, I provided administrative support for a number of projects. This ranged from planning a message campaign to preparing new content for the Organisation’s website and social media platforms. This required gaining experience in the use of CMS systems. As support for the department I was the first point of contact for a number of enquiries made to the organisation. During my secondment I was also trained in the use of InDesign (training provided by BigRockDesigns) which I used to create a range of literature for distribution within the Union. Show less

Sales Assistant

Jul 2006 - Jul 2010
Starting my first job at the age of 16 I quickly learned what it would take to be successful. This job taught me the value of hard work, communication and teamwork in achieving a goal. Alongside our team I helped to operate our till systems accurately and keeping shop standards through restocking, cleaning and displaying where mew stock would be merchandised. Throughout my time here I learnt the valuable communication skills needed to provide an effective customer service. Over time I challenged myself and improved these skills by actively dealing with more difficult customers and resolving their grievances. Whenever new staff joined the company I was trusted with training them in the operation of our till systems as well as shop procedures. This was a role where I owe much of my professional development. Show less
