Jul 2017 - Sep 2020
In July 2017 I was awarded a temporary promotion to Senior Statistician. This led to additional responsibility as statistical lead on research projects and increased interaction with senior staff, where management of expectations regarding the available data/evidence was at the forefront of the role. I have lead on the statistical elements of research into early and multiple entry, which was published in October 2017. Currently I am working on research investigating the decline in GCE entries over time and the use of non-examined assessment as a feature of general qualifications. I have a lead role in preparing for our first release of a number of Official Statistics publications in 2018, the most prominent of which is the review of marking release that is due to be published in December.

I joined Qualifications Wales as a statistician in June 2016. I was responsible for providing statistical information to the organisation, for example analysing Lifelong Learning Wales Records (LLWR) in support of sector reviews and collation of summer awarding data. I contributed towards the data project, which was set up to oversee the establishment of the organisations capability to collect and publish data on qualifications awarded in Wales. I was required to produce statistics in line with the Code of Practice for Official Statistics, which meant ensuring they were sufficiently trustworthy, of high quality and relevant to users.

I primarily worked on the Wealth and Assets Survey (WAS) during my time at ONS, originally as a Statistical Officer before earning a promotion to Research Officer. I gained experience performing many of the main WAS processes including: cross-sectional and longitudinal edit checks and writing SPSS corrections, base checking to examine questionnaire routing errors, producing comment file edit spreadsheets, running post-imputation checks, ensuring imputation specifications are up to date and creating EUL datasets for external researchers. I also assumed responsibility for running the imputation when it was decided to relocate this work from a different ONS office. In October 2014 I took on management of the three administrative officers (AO) employed on the team.
