Learning Support Teacher

I'm the G3 LS co-teacher at ISU. I'm in all lessons supporting our learners with identified needs as well as our EAL learners. I also provide small group and 1:1 intervention services to our students. ISU is very fortunate to have good MTSS in place which includes an OT, SLP and Intensive Learning Support program teacher. I liaise with all these professionals to ensure continuity of support in the mainstream classroom. Additionally, I provide LS services to our Early Childhood section. I'm also the G3 team leader. The Learning Support team supports students with varying levels of need across Early Childhood (ages 2-5) and Elementary (ages 6 - 10). I currently head the department, supporting the LS team with developing and implementing targeted interventions, writing IEPs, communicating with parents as well as supporting my own caseload of students. Additionally I periodically review and update all documentation relating to Learning Support, in consultation with the whole school LS team, the Principals of Early Childhood and Elementary and the school Director. Learning Support Teacher

Aug 2009 - Jul 2015
The Learning Development Team supports both teachers and students in the areas of SEN, EAL and gifted and talented. As the LDT teacher I provide support for literacy difficulties numeracy difficulties, working memory difficulties, and attention and focus difficulties. My role in the team is to assist students on the LDT register in accessing the curriculum, and provide guidance, support and resources to classroom teachers working with students on the LDT register. I meet frequently with senior management, classroom teachers, parents and the students to ensure ongoing support is effective. To date I have worked with years 1 - 5 in the primary, though currently I only work with years 3 and 4. I have found the work to be challenging but exceptionally rewarding, above and beyond anything I have done previously. I have actively engaged in further professional development while at DC, including PYP workshops, gifted and talented education, individual needs training, first aid and a number of other courses.
