As the events intern for the City of Orem, I use Experience Design to empathize with residents of the city, employees, and others, to discover their needs and ideate and implement solutions. I participate in the planning, production, and analyzation processes of several events, including Orem's largest event of the year, Oremfest. Putting on this event for roughly 50,000 people was a great learning opportunity for me to better understand the world of Experience Design, and I am currently analyzing each aspect of Oremfest and compiling them into a comprehensive document in order to create improvements for future years. When completed, this 150 page document will tell the reader all they need to know about each area of Oremfest so that they will have the capability of putting it on themselves. Other duties include assisting with the city social media accounts, attending and participating in ribbon cuttings for new Orem businesses, interacting with the mayor and city council, planning future events from multicultural celebrations to service activities, and using my Experience Design skills to ideate solutions to problems, identify pain points, create journey maps, and improve the overall experience of everybody that comes in contact with employees at the City of Orem. As a research assistant for Dr. Mat Duerden in the Experience Design and Management department of the BYU Marriott School of Business, I work with a team to perform research, write literature reviews, conduct studies and focus groups, and analyze data in order to forward the work of Experience Design. Currently, I and my team are working with Billy Nixon, the head of football operations at BYU, to research and study the student-athlete experience, discover pain points, and create processes to improve the player experience. Several papers will also be written based on the research we are conducting. Show less
