I currently lead on our safety agenda. As well as managing a team of 4 front-line staff and working operationally with West Midlands Police on local issues, I work with Birmingham City Council and a range of voluntary sector partners to deliver schemes to tackle the acute rise in homelessness in Birmingham. I am in the process of setting up a local Pubwatch scheme and security network. Since 2014 I have delivered a wide range of marketing projects. This has included a number of events such as a music festival and a film festival. In addition to being involved in the creation of various marketing campaigns, I have been responsible for the delivery of a number of editions of our magazine, Colmore Life. I have also been responsible for our digital presence, project managing the re-design of our website and managing our range of social media accounts, forging strong links with local influencers, particularly around our hospitality sector.

The goal of most clients was to provide people with a meaningful qualification that could be achieved whilst learning in a less academic environment; service users would often have an educational need or would have fallen out of mainstream education. As a result it was important to understand the client and what they delivered, and the challenges their service users faced in order to achieve the above goal. Other clients were providing training to new front-line staff and, again wanted to ensure their employees gained something useful and transferable. This remote-working role involved a strong element of account management, developing excellent relationships with clients and building a strong commercial relationship between NOCN and current customers, as well as generating new businesses. I lead on the 2 customer implementation phases, rolling out the new system and technology to a customer base of 30,000. I project managed the procurement, design and delivery of a city centre property shop and a customer website, and I was also responsible for creating all of the associated customer materials relating to the new scheme, including posters, leaflets, user guides and website content. I also managed a stakeholder engagement scheme that brought together a range of organisations with expertise in working with vulnerable clients. This scheme utilised those skills and the knowledge of those organisations to support vulnerable customers to use the new scheme in return for a small financial reward. This scheme delivered successfully on its outcomes and was delivered using only 50% of the budget, allowing the remainder to be used to fund other areas of the project.

Applications were assessed against the criteria set out in Part VII of the Housing Act 1996 (as amended) and in line with the relevant Code of Guidance. This area of law is complex. In addition to some considerably strict procedural requirements, there is a plethora of case law on most parts of the act, some of it contradictory, making the task of applying the law a complex one. The job involved a significant amount of investigative work, locating and compiling and interpreting a significant amount of evidence in order to justify the decision made. Once made, the relevant law, the decision, and the reasoning had to be communicated to the applicant who usually had little or no understanding of the law in this area. Several times a week, this work was done on a "duty basis", dealing with cases that came in on the day. This meant you would have to work quickly but throughly in order to provide an outcome. Cases were often complex and involve distressing circumstance and being able to tell someone in need that you wont be able to help them requires sensitive communication skills and emotional resilience. As this function is extremely busy, complex and political, performance was closely monitored against a number of targets which I usually achieved.
