  During my PhD as an FWO aspirant, I investigated the multifaceted interaction between the Suid herpesvirus 1 and the plasmacytoid dendritic cell. During this research, I became well experienced in drawing blood, primary cell isolation (PBMC & epithelial), MACS, cytokine assays, ELISA, immunofluorescence, flowcytometry and FACS, SDS-PAGE & Western blotting, q(RT)PCR, plasmid design & purification, transfections, virus infections, virus mutant construction, modified live vaccines, experimental evolution, cell cultures, vaccination, working in a BSL3 environment, DNA restrictions, bacterial work, gel electrophoresis, density ultracentrifugation, proteomics. I also got acquainted with analyzing, summarizing and presenting my data, tutoring master students, guiding new PhD students, teaching practical courses and publishing our discoveries in prominent scientific journals.
