Teaching in a successful Geography department i have taught KS3-5, developing new schemes of work, developing progression through learning in the classroom, on field trips and in marking feedback. I have also taught Science, ICT and General Studies. I have worked as a tutor for Y7-13. I am in charge of the school website. I ran the EcoSchools group for 6 years and gained the school the green flag award and installed two sets of solar panels. As a senior tutor with the Field Studies Council my role was to develop and lead field study courses to a high standard in Biology, Geography and Outdoor Education at a residential centre in North Wales. I have experience of teaching Primary and Secondary Schools, adults, PGCE students, teachers and local wardens. In terms of management I was a line manager for 4 GAP placements through which I developed good organisational and communication skills, training, timetabling and mentoring. I was also the EcoCentre Chairman at the centre and as such I was involved in reducing the environmental impact of the centre and promoting sustainability.

As part of a year in New Zealand I volunteered at OPC for 5 months where I developed their environmental interpretation and EIA systems. To develop staff I delivered training for instructors on environmental education and how an understanding of self esteem is important for creating empathy of the environment, this included a 24hour solo immersion experience. During this year I also did some conservation and research work with the Dept of Conservation. As expedition leader for World Challenge I was ultimately responsible for the welfare of a group of 18 (year 11 and 12) students in Mexico, trekking and carrying out conservation work. The focus of the trip was improving self esteem, leadership and team skills of young people. On this expedition I also learnt to remain flexible and adaptable to changing situations.
