Jon was my head of department for 2 years at YK Pao School. During that time he demonstrated excellent leadership skills and was able to motivate not only the students, but the teachers he was responsible for. Jon was able to communicate efficiently and effectively with not only English speaking staff, but also Chinese faculty members. He shows the qualities that easily allows him to build strong relationships with staff and students, and helps everyone be better than they were the day before. His focus for students was to use sport as an effective means to teach students character values and equip them with the skills needed to succeed as a global citizen. Jon is a forward thinking educator who is consistently adapting to meet the needs of the students, through using technology or introducing them to new and exciting ways to experience physical education.

John Barratt

Jon's ability to directly motivate students was exceptional and his teamwork will prove an enormous benefit to any school. He is a highly dedicated professional and demonstrates excellent knowledge in his specialist field of Physical & Outdoors Education. Jon was extremely pleasant with all staff and would do extra without question wherever there was a need. His ability to perform under stress was exemplary and he has an excellent ability to adapt and be flexible especially in areas which may be difficult to staff. He has a good understanding of the extra expectations placed on international staff which may not be so obvious for teachers coming directly from developed nations. Jon's greatest strength was the skill to have students reach the best of their ability in PE and sports and feel safe in improving their physical abilities. Not all children enjoy PE or are talented but Jon was still able to make even the weakest member of each class feel they could accomplish reasonable targets and helped to bring the top performers to champion level. Jon also was part of helping charities in India and worked on the weekend to help improve the lives of young people with the IAYP or D of E award and demonstrated genuine care and empathy for others. As the Head of PE Jon also had to train local staff and manage their performance. To help improve standards with locals he manifested tolerance and helped them to perform better by leading by example. He took an interest in their welfare so that children would feel comfortable with all members of his department. Hence I have absolutely no hesitations in recommending Jon for any professional post especially in regards to outdoor activities or PE.
