Jon has more than 40 years of ITS and traffic engineering experience. This includes nearly 40 years with the Minnesota Department of Transportation, and his most recent role as a development engineer in the ITS Section of the Office of Traffic, Safety and Technology. Jon’s duties have included researching new technologies, understanding how new and existing technologies can be adapted for new applications, managing and developing systems engineering for the design of new systems, and evaluating the performance of these new systems and technologies. Developed and implemented work zone traffic control standards, specifications and policies for Mn/DOT construction and maintenance activities. Provided technical expertise to clientele on the application of work zone traffic controls. Acted a liaison between Mn/DOT and other local, state and federal agencies and between divisions within Mn/DOT in the area of work zone traffic control and safety. Developed and administered statewide work zone safety awards for construction. Developed and implemented work zone traffic control public education and awareness programs in Minnesota and on a national level.

Developed standards and guidelines on the design and application of traffic controls for signing, pavement markings and work zone traffic controls. Prepared specifications and special provisions for construction and maintenance temporary traffic controls. Provided technical expertise on the application of signing, pavement markings, and work zone traffic controls. Represented Mn/COT at national conferences and meetings. Administered the development and implementation of signing, pavement marking and work zone traffic control training programs and courses. Assisted in development of "402" safety programs to upgrade traffic controls on Minnesota streets and highways.
