Jolene is second to none to work with. Her understanding and acceptance of both First Nation collaboration and archaeological assessment allowed for all assessments to occur with no issue. Often these two requirements can cause projects to stall or be delayed if there is no understanding by the manager. But Jolene's pre-planning and foresight turned the process into one of the smoothest projects I have ever worked on. Look forward to many more projects with Jolene.

In my role I am responsible for the planning and design of proposed cut blocks that take into consideration client needs while balancing forest health concerns, wildlife needs, stake holder and First Nations values as well as a variety of other non-timber resource values. Using aerial photography, imagery, VRI data and LiDAR combined with flights and on-the-ground field work helps to determine which areas will be best suited for development in order to meet the fibre needs of the mill. I manage recce crews who collect information which helps to determine which stands are suitable for harvest and which stands are better suited to meet other needs on the land. I also work with the Public Advisory Committee (PAC), stake holders and other concerned groups or members of the public and First Nations in the area to share information about proposed plans and to discuss concerns and other important land use values. I have also been lucky enough to have been a part of the latest Timber Supply Review for our Allowable Annual Cut and in the the preparation of our Forest Stewardship Plan. Another major part of job includes being the main point of contact for our yearly audits to maintain our certification and working with our local Occupational Health and Safety Committee. Show less

    • Seasonal Crew Leader/Field Ops Temp Staff
      • May 2012 - Oct 2013

Mentoring and training a 4 person crew new to forestry and forest development. Cut block and road layout, stream classification, identifying wildlife tree patches and biologically significant features were all part of the job. Recce work included data collection and forest health info at the stand level, timber quality and other tree attribute data. Eco data was also collected for determining site series and harvest season for proposed blocks. Extensive use of ArcMap and GIS systems to map and type areas for future use. Layout and recce work was completed where both cable and conventional harvest systems would be used. Show less

    • Level 3 First Aid Attendant
      • 2003 - 2004

For 2 summers I worked as a Level 3 first aid attendant on wildfires. I have worked a number of the large fires in the interior in those two summers as well as a few smaller fires (Barriere, Lillooet, Clearwater, Blue River). I was responsible for providing first aid to those who needed it, and to provide check-ins as required with BC Wildfire Service, and to forward the appropriate paperwork to Work Safe BC. • Contractor/Work Coordinator
      • Jul 2001 - Aug 2003

I held a contract position at various times over a two and a half year period (as needed) where I was responsible for helping to find funding sources and opportunities to help build capacity in the Natural Resource and Lands department as well as draft proposals for funding requests and responses to job opportunities. When work was available, I was responsible for scheduling work crews to complete the contracts which included both short-term silviculture and archaeology contracts as well as multi-year projects for both silviculture and archaeology work. I responded to referrals to various agencies conducting works in the WPCIB Traditional Territory. I was also involved in a Traditional Land Use Study and completed a Traditional Knowledge Study for the Band in my time there. Each month I would draft a summary report for my supervisor and Chief and Council and to membership. Show less
