    • Project Manager - Equality & Cohesion
      • Jul 2016 - Present

Odd arts uses theatre to challenge inequalities and increase opportunities for people facing the greatest level of discrimination and disadvantage. We specialise in delivering theatre-based programmes in prisons, secure units and criminal justice settings that are bespoke and designed to meet the needs of participants. Our work challenges and changes attitudes and behaviours & enables people to understand the world and themselves differently. We deliver Therapeutic theatre workshops to reduce risk, Interactive theatre tours to empower & educate and Creative & community led social action projects to overcome inequalities. Our key areas of expertise range from Violence Reduction – Serious youth violence; sexual violence; extremism/radicalisation; cultural/systemic violence to Mental Health – Emotional resilience; self harm/anxiety/stress – prevention & targeted and Healthy Relationships – Consent; domestic & relationship abuse; communication. Our work is underpinned by Trauma informed, Restorative approaches. Within my role I manage and enhance existing programmes of work, as well as designing and implementing new work across the different sectors, often with a focus on Equality & Cohesion. We specialise in Theatre, but our work often spans Film / Art and Dance as well. Show less

    • WRITER / DIRECTOR
      • May 2008 - Present

My background is as a multidisciplinary artist with a passion for collaboration across art forms and therefore my work spans sculptural installations, Theatre and Film. WRITER / DIRECTOR - Short films My first narrative short film, Time Goes Nowhere (2009), funded by NW Vision, was accepted onto the BBC Film Network and since then my shorts have screened nationally & internationally at over 40 film festivals, including BAFTA and BIFA qualifying, receiving nominations and awards in various categories. My BFI Network funded short ‘MUG’ which started its festival run in June 2022, has now screened at 23 national/international festivals including BIFA qualifying MANIFF and Women X and gaining multiple accolades, including ‘Best film to pass the Bechdel Test’. My new short film ‘GOBSTOPPER’ is currently in post production, due to be released on the festival circuit later in the year. I would say (and has been said) of my work that I am drawn to writing about characters who dance on the edge of what society perceives as acceptable, often with a strong focus on female friendships and a simultaneous contrast of hope and hopelessness. I am a passionate member of the KINOKABARET movement. ARTIST & THEATREMAKER I’ve exhibited work at ‘The National review of live Art’, ‘Not part of Manchester International Festival’, ‘16 days of street art action’ & ‘Orbit Festival’. My most recent cross artform piece, ‘DAILY: Speak Truth to Power,’ involving dance/physical theatre, music & film, was shown at HOME as part of Orbit festival in 2019 selected by Clean Break Theatre Company. The premise was: ‘In a world where stereotypes, restrictions & hypocrisies, perpetuated by the political elite, box us in, push us down and divide us, we have two choices, apathy or action, we choose action. We choose protest.’ Show less

Providing one to one phone support and advice to women, assessing their safety needs. This role gives me a good overview of the range of statutory and voluntary agencies which women and children may come into contact with when experiencing domestic abuse, from outreach and refuge services, counselling and drop ins to debt advice and free legal surgeries. We support our callers to understand the difference between the criminal or civil route to protection and the protection orders available to them under The Family Law Act 1996 or the Protection from Harassment Act 1997. In 2013 I set up the social action project 16 days of street art action which uses the global campaign ‘16 days of action to end violence against women’ as a platform to promote the work of female artists from across the North West and celebrate the various interpretations and expressions of feminism. In 2015, I received grants for the arts funding to bring about 16 days of street art action - Pillars of the Community, and to bring to light the little known heroines of past and present. On each day of the 16 days of action, a piece of street art depicting a revolutionary woman was painted or pasted on street bollards on Oldham Street Manchester City Centre. https://www.facebook.com/16daysofstreetartaction Show less

The Together Trust provides a range of social care, special education, community support and consultancy services in the North West of England. The charity is one of the North West’s largest providers of residential homes for children from short-term emergency care to long-term placements. I have worked for The Together Trust for over 10 years now. I started working at a 6 bedroom home in Withington for young people aged 11-16 years old with behavioral difficulties . Throughout my time at the trust I have also worked at an independancy unit for 16-19 year olds who are preparing to leave the care system and now I work in a respite unit for young people on the autistic spectrum.
