I first met Johnny when he volunteered on several committees of the Kwantlen Polytechnic University Student Association's (KSA) Board of Directors. He was always very committed to helping and always brought a wealth of ideas to the floor. Later, Johnny and I would end up serving together as part of the KSA's Richmond Campus Council where we worked to help revitalize the social atmosphere of the Richmond Campus. As a team, we planned for and organized many events from pub nights to information days to hosting guest speakers and one man shows on campus. There wasn't anything Johnny couldn't do from helping to shop for a campus BBQ to helping cook at the BBQ, to helping to talk to students and liaise with faculty about upcoming events to bringing student concerns to the Board of Directors which met bi-monthly - Johnny could always be counted on. And his hard work always paid off - every event we organized would see more people get involved. Johnny was also a tremendous asset in helping to stand up for and protect the association from a group of students who purportedly used the KSA as their own personal piggy bank. He helped gather information, attend meetings and helped organize a Special General Meeting on the Richmond Campus to oust the elected officials at the centre of the scandal as well as to pass and file new Bylaws for the Society. After winning in a court ordered election that was held in late 2006, Johnny continued to serve on the Board of Directors helping to rebuild the association from the ground up. Without the hard work, dedication and service students like Johnny gave, the KSA would not be in the strong position it is in today. And through all of this, even though both of us have not been involved with the KSA for many years now, we both remain friends where a group of us from the KSA meets every other month to catch-up, reminisce and just have fun. Ultimately, I have no hesitation in recognizing the tremendous experience Johnny would bring to any organization.
