Monitored four, previously tagged Gopher Tortoises using radio-telemetry. The data collected will be a part of an ongoing study in understanding how gopher tortoises interact amongst each other and other species, as well as, their movement within the Pine Rockland ecosystem. - Performed and delegated trail maintenance and habitat restoration projects for the 10 acre Nature Preserve. - Guided tours and special events, focusing on South Florida's ecosystems. - Responsible for monitoring FIU's Palmetum - Conducted a tree benefit analysis for 35 tress on two of FIU's campuses. Each tree was labeled with estimated data in regard to water retention from runoff, carbon sequestration and energy savings for nearby buildings from shading. -Conducted a cross-cut analysis on dwarf cypress trees using a hydrochloric acid solution and phloroglucinol. This method resulted in the annual growth rings becoming more evident which allowed for more price counting. - Due to the presence of false rings in dwarf cypress trees, each cross-cut sample underwent three different annual ring counts on different radii. The average of each cross-cut sample was then calculated for a more precise estimation of actual age. - Few studies have been conducted using this method to age dwarf cypress trees. Show less
