I am responsible for the day to day running of an FMCG warehouse distributing circa 35 million items fresh produce and chilled items annually across the entirety of the UK through a dedicated team of shift managers, team leaders and operational staff. We deliver to a variety of food service providers from Hospital and Prison canteens through to Michelin starred restaurants operating both standard warehouse bulk pick and distribution models through to more complex bespoke customer level picking solutions utilising conveyor systems and LEAN principles. I Manage over 200 people on site from warehouse operatives to drivers through a team of shift managers and team leaders. The site and business operates 24 hours a day 364 days per year come rain, shine or snow and has seen between 7% and 8% growth per annum for the past 2 years with similar figures expected in 2015. During this time I have achieved year on year efficiency gains mitigating the cost of inflation whilst improving overall service from the site. We run both primary trunking and secondary delivery vehicles from site and over the past 3 years have grown local deliveries from nothing to over £2mp/a with high ebitda levels and a distinct premium service. I am NEBOSH qualified having overall site responsibility for H&S, Staff welfare and staff engagement and in my time in charge have overseen a number of operational improvements that have driven down serious incidents on site to record lows whilt increasing engagement to some of the highest levels in the group. I am involved in yearly commercial deals for Packaging and other areas and report to a regional General manager and Group Operations director. I propose and deliver yearly a cost budget in excess of £7.5m p/a . Show less

Warehouse operative to shift manager

Mar 2003 - Jan 2010
I started with Brakes Corby in November 2002 as an agency worker when it was in transition from being owned by the Pauleys family. I officially became full time in February 2003 at the same time that the transfer was finalised. Since then I have worked through most departments within the operation from picking and packing to goods in to inventory management and finally staff inductions and training. I rapidly progressed from Agency to full time and then every year to 18 months through to 2010 I was promoted. In this time I set up the inventory department including setting up an excel based warehouse management system, set up the training department, introduced various cost measuring tools and had involvement in most major projects on site from implementing large customer groups to carrying our group consultations for shift changes with more than 50 people. My early years with Brakes have helped give me a strong insight into all areas of a distribution operation and how important all areas are linking into each other. It has also given me a massive understanding of how important engaging the shop floor workers is in creating a well run operation. Show less
