      I joined the RN as an Artificer Apprentice serving a four year Electrical Engineering apprenticeship and then worked through the ranks achieving the rank of Chief Petty Officer Weapons Engineering Artificer (Ordnance Control) a Senior Non-commissioned Officer. During my time I served in warships, shore training establishments and maintenance dockyards.  Managed five subordinate technical personnel. Responsible for planning and organising tasks, maintenance, general welfare and leadership development.  The senior maintainer on-board, substituting for higher grades in periods of absence.  Responsible for maintaining ship weapon systems which include electrical controls, pneumatics and hydraulics, ensuring they were achieving a high state of equipment readiness at all times for trials, training and ship’s fighting efficiency.  Provided Technical Instruction and Training to classes of 20 plus people from a wide spectrum of personnel from new recruits to high ranking officers. This included planning, adjusting and amending lesson structures.  As a Trials Officer responsible for the conduct of Installation Inspections, Harbour and Sea Acceptance Trials on new build ships and ships coming out of deep maintenance periods to strict trial procedures and within time lines. Achieving high standards of workmanship from good liaison and communication with contractors and ship staff.
