I have planned and led the field sampling aspects of several shellfish stock and hygiene (Coliform) surveys of the Burry Inlet and Pendine Sands (South Wales), on behalf of the Countryside Council for Wales, the Environment Agency and local shellfish industry. The surveys averaged 4 weeks in duration and were conducted annually during the month of September between 2005 and 2011, with additional surveys conducted in the spring/autumn of 2009, 2011 & 2012. These involved the management of all practical aspects of the survey, i.e. leading two to four man teams in sampling 400+ sites within the estuary. The role also required liaising with local landowners and conservation/government bodies with regards to land access, addressing all health and safety and logistical aspects of the survey as well as undertaking all subsequent data inputting & laboratory analysis.
