I worked with John on several exploration projects at ConocoPhillips focused on both Lower 48 and international plays. John is a dependable, thoughtful exploration geologist able to think and work from prospect to regional scale. John can quickly construct graphics which communicate complex, three dimensional geologic models in a clear, understandable way. John both listens to those offering input and offers his own insights freely.

John was one of my mentors at COP when I was working on the L48 NV team. He is a value driven, technically sound, and well rounded geoscientist. During my time with John, he did everything in his power to help me succeed and also gave me an early lesson in pushing back against personal technical biases. In this case, I was interpreting a fairly complex petroleum system. At the time, many thought that it wasn't worth the time to interpret because of underlying *perceived* challenges. John encouraged me to push through, and acted as a guide through the interpretation process. The end result? A fully fledged, never-tested, over-pressured, liquids-rich unconventional prospect. Only possible because we decided to push on. John was instrumental in this effort. Last, he is simply a good person and joy to be around. I'd work with him in any time, any place.

Head of geologic valuation and basin/regional scale tectonostratigraphy, advising Executive Leadership on strategy and capital allocation. Team lead for Wilcox plays. ➤ Key part of innovative 12-person team evaluating 8 basins and advising senior management on portfolio of opportunities: I was the structural geology lead as we developed a new exploration philosophy within the New Ventures organization, based on a total petroleum system approach. Worked in Gulf Coast Basin, Green River Basin, entire Western Interior Seaway basin system.➤ Delivered $1MM value as lead of 5-person team for Wilcox prospect divestment maintaining schedules, ability to pivot toward immediate needs and managing cross-functional expertise ➤ Communication: Framed project areas from a structural perspective and simplified complex tectonostratigraphic evolutions to convey key details, cutting project timelines, and driving business decisions as to which basins to pursue in greater detail➤ Data Integration: multiple datasets (petrophysical, geochemical, core, seismic, pressure and show data) to generate and screen play ideas➤ Leading Integrated Teams, saving $MMs: Oversaw team of 4-5 to deliver stratigraphic interval play ideas using play-based exploration philosophy. Evaluated Pearsall, Mowry, Wilcox – with technically-sound management recommendations to not pursue➤ Technical Communication and Training Specialist: Known for developing ‘stealth play concept,’ which crystallized a complex technical narrative, for company-wide deployment. Also developed a four day training seminar for 10-person team, focused on exploration for stratigraphic traps using case studies from the North Sea and the North Slope. Show less

Development geologist in charge of planning and drilling wells and recompletions.➤ Adding Value: Worked on recompletion program in the Holt and San Andres formations, driving low-cost capital investment providing $100M uplift to existing wells➤ Applied innovative seismic stratigraphy workflow, leading to $20MM San Andres development program. The novel approach (which I developed during my internship) includes frequency decomposition and seismic facies analysis, and helped identify reservoir potential in San Andres Formation, ➤ Technical Training: Presented technical talk to 50 leading geoscience specialists at COP to introduce and illucidate seismic stratigraphy workflow referenced above➤ Industry-Wide Recognition: Invited talk at 2018 Geoteric technical conference Show less

Geologist with a specialty in regional tectonics and stratigraphy➤ Led SE Asia regional project, focusing on Vietnam, Thailand, and Myanmar.➤ Ability to integrate and simplify: on a short 2 month project timeline, able to deliver value-adding recommendation to senior management to not pursue exploration projects in this region

    • Intern Geologist
      • Jun 2014 - Sep 2014

Intern geologist in the Clastic Stratigraphy group➤ Innovated a new workflow using seismic stratigraphy and seismic facies analysis to construct a 3-dimensional geomodel of a channelized turbidite reservoir ➤ Performed seismic mapping of a shallow Pliocene turbidite channel complex and facies analysis of internal channel stratigraphy using seismic attributes and frequency decomposition. Constructed geomodel using seismic surfaces and attributes, unique facies classification based on multivariate analysis of seismic attributes and frequency responses; proved concept that a realistic geomodel could be built using seismic data alone ➤ Results adopted by deepwater exploration team to improve models of poorly imaged prospects and discoveries worth total of $350MM Show less
