John’s extensive knowledge and understanding of Geospatial analysis as well as his ability to communicate around web development cemented our work relationship. I worked with John at the Council for watershed Health on PipelineForTheFuture.org. His generous sharing of knowledge, support and problem solving abilities made the work very rewarding. I recommend him for his ability to communicate across the developer / client divide as well as the ability to communicate and teach GIS principals to development staff. John would be an asset to any organization looking to meld GIS and web applications, especially in the water resources discipline.

Conducting application development research in the environmental and Geodesign disciplines. Mentoring graduate students developing GIS application and analysis projects, including the California Coastal Trail Planning Portal for Coastwalk California, the Brownfields to Healthfields map portal for EPA Region 9 and the Transit to Trails analysis for San Gabriel Mountains Forever. For the Transit to Trails study the analysis matched the highest need neighborhoods in Los Angeles with the trails parks and recreation within an hour ride to understand the viability for a future shuttle system. This was accomplished by analyzing a combination of factors of need, counting the potential population with in a 15 minute walking distance to a public facility and then prioritizing the facilities by a the number of potential residents that the facility could serve as well as their need.
