    • Chair, Social and Behavioral Sciences and Assistant Professor of History/Geography
      • Oct 2009 - Present

In addition to performing my current duties as an Assistant Professor of History and Geography with Georgia Military College (GMC), as Chair for the Social and Behavioral Sciences Department I also carry out the daily operation of the department by providing leadership and mentoring of faculty, administrative expertise including long-term and short-term planning, decision-making, and coordination of instruction. Specifically, I prepare each term’s schedule, assist with assessment, evaluate and improve courses, conduct annual performance reviews of department faculty and adjuncts, identify, recommend, and mentor qualified adjunct instructors, and respond to student concerns and attempt to resolve those concerns before submission to the Academic Dean. My teaching load includes 20-quarter hours of survey American History and World Civilization courses in traditional as well as web-enhanced modalities during four accelerated terms per year at the Atlanta Campuses. I also teach learning community, independent-study, and history and geography supplemental courses such as African-American History, Military History, Religion in America, and World Geography as well as committee work responsibilities. While at the Valdosta campus, academic advising was part of my contract. Moreover, I support the discipline by assessing student academic achievement in our degree program, revising curricula, recommending books and materials and by remaining active in professional development.
