I have known and worked with John over my entire tenure at Merrill Lynch in Risk Management. John is a consummate risk and financial professional, with extensive financial analysis skills and very strong management experience. He has successfully overseen and proactively risk managed volatile portfolios across global markets, and partners well with business leaders. His personal ethics and integrity are impeccable, and he is a problem solver and builds consensus, while not accepting anything less than best practices.

I have known John Swadba since I joined Merrill Lynch in 2004. John subsequently became my direct boss, managing the Loan Execution and Management Group in 2006. John successfully managed the risk of Merrill Lynch’s leverage finance portfolio through the most difficult time in the industry’s recent history. During this time, John always maintained his professional leadership demeanor and formed a strong team to successfully risk manage (including monthly mark-to-market and hedging) a $50bn corporate and leverage finance portfolio. As a result of John’s extensive loan product experience and hands-on management/leadership style, we were able to successfully manage our portfolio with nominal losses at a time when many institutions were realizing huge losses. John’s well rounded global risk management experience would be an invaluable asset to any financial institution. On a personal note, John is a very honorable and ethical individual and continues to be a valuable resource to me as a career mentor.
