As the Director of Curriculum and Instruction at Holy Trinity, An Episcopal School I worked to design and implement a comprehensive plan to review and update curriculum, while promoting instructional strategies which develop 21st Century Skills. Qualitative and quantitative data allowed for vertical and horizontal alignment of curriculum to ensure students are exposed to content and skills which are developmentally appropriate for 500 students in grades PK3-8. Doing so required collaborative planning, acquisition and implementation of curricula to fit the needs of our community; including new math, science and social studies curriculums, as well as Responsive Classroom as our social and emotional learning curriculum framework. Transparent and collaborative leadership served as a basis for creating skill development frameworks which are understood by all stakeholders. Planning insitutional and indivudalized professional development has ensured successful implementation of new programs, while promoting teacher growth. Rubicon Atlas has served as an effective medium for creating and storing curriculum maps in a format which was created to support our school’s adoption to Understanding by Design (UbD) and ways to incorporate the differentiation of instruction which guarantees content and skill mastery for all students. I utilized data collection to collaboratively work with teachers in identifying the needs of students while ensuring that curriculum is presented to meet the needs of all students at their current proficiency levels. Relied upon a multitude of experiences to develop special education programs and environments which ensured the growth of students regardless of their learning and social differences.

As a Center for Inspired Teaching BLISS (Building Literacy in the Social Studies) Fellow, in partnership with District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS), I worked to create student centered inquiry based curriculum with embedded literacy development. The creation, design and implementation of district wide Cornerstone assignments help ensure that all students are receiving an equitable education with high rigor and similar experiences. Utilized data collection to collaboratively work with teachers to identify the needs of students while ensuring that curriculum is presented to meet the needs of all students at their current proficiency levels. This information allows for the opportunity to create effective bi-monthly district-wide professional development to address the needs of students and teachers. I continued this work to identify and address the needs of the entire school community, while collaboratively creating solutions which utilize modern best practices and ensure the highest level of academic success.
