Great leaders know that there's nothing simple about the back office. People who talk endlessly about outsourcing and the cloud simply show off their naivete. Your back off systems are far more than computers and wires - they are the way you go about doing business; the way you enable collaboration; the way you stay safe and manage risks. There's nothing outsource-able in what Director IT Systems is actually all about. If you understand that fact, you want someone like John. Because he understands that fact as well. John has played this game long enough to understand the many levels of nuance, and the interconnecting risk points that must be understood before you make any of the facile blanket decisions that you are being pressured to make. Your company's information, and your company's people. Those are the two resources that must be protected, enabled, secure and free. There's nothing simple about it, and if you want a soft-spoken Irishman-wannabe to advise you on that, while risk managing competing demands and limited budgets, you want John. On top of all of that, John is a dedicated team player. Many mornings we turned on the building lights together, arriving pre-dawn, and many nights we turned off the building lights, leaving after dusk.
