I have known John Staley since 2002 while he was a student in the PhD program for Health Services Research in Occupational Safety and Health at UNC at Chapel Hill. He was always timely with his work which was of high quality. He was very willing to present lectures when asked. He is dependable, conscientious, and a hard worker.

I've never thought of my relationship with John as teacher/student. It's been much more as colleagues. We served on a committee together to further improve the quality of the education our students receive. That joint service and my other interactions with John here In Health Policy and Management have shown him to be a highly ethical, hard working, thoughtful person who is very well versed in the substance of our discipline. John is committed to making a difference in people's health and well-being through his research, and I have no doubt he will make many wonderful contributions in his career I just wish we could keep him here.
