John has always been a 'natural' broadcaster, which means he's easy with people, has interesting things to say, steers the conversation to match his audience and knows when to stop talking, A couple of weeks ago it was a fantastic surprise to find that he's also a fully signed up, accredited Manchester Tour Guide. Put natural broadcaster with qualified tour guide and it's like having your own living, talking, funny TV documentary as you go round the city. No rolled-up umbrella and boring talking text book, it was a great time and I'd suggest anyone who spends any time in Manchester will find this fun and interesting. Would make a great corporate or team session too. Thanks John!

    • Lead Radio Trainer/Expert (part time)
      • Aug 2014 - Jun 2017

I visited Juba several times a year, and provided support remotely from Manchester. My role was to help grow the capacity of the local programme management team, broadcast staff and Station Director to develop Eye Radio, a full-service commercial radio station broadcasting from Juba in South Sudan. I was one of three embedded training leaders implementing transformation strategy as the station was rolled out through repeater transmitters in state capitals across the country. Whilst other colleagues were responsible for business administration, and sales, my role was programming and editorial lead. Since July 2016, the security situation in Juba is such that this work is now undertaken remotely from the UK, and recent training trips took place with the station's senior team in Nairobi.
