Bio
Simone-Calais Staley
I had the pleasure of working for John Purdie at Western Washington University. In his role as Associate Director of University Residences he had a large impact on each staff member working under his leadership and each student living in the residence halls. He taught me the power of asking "Why?" and appreciated his critical leadership always helped to get at the core of the work we were doing. I also was privileged to have taught an academic course with John, instructed the newly hired RAs to development their leadership abilities. John is a passionate and animated instructor who energized the students with his prompts and questions. He brought "Why?" into the classroom and the workplace and everyone who works with him should know he also lives by this simple question. I have become a better person and professional because of his role modeling of, "Why?".

John is an energetic and passionate supporter of students and life-long learning. As a partner and mentor at Western, he provided expertise in student development theory and was a leader in helping diverse constituants connect everyday activities to critical outcomes. John's humor and positive attitude make him a magnet for students and young professionals who are eager to learn and grow.
