May 2012 - 2013
I manage the engineering team on a project to develop a pipeline tractor that is used to drag inspection and cleaning equipment through pipelines that cannot be accessed by conventional pigs. The technology involves motor control, power transmission, communication and mechanics. My experience over the past seven years provides Genesis with the knowledge to complete the development of the tool.

Jan 2009 - Aug 2011
As electronic engineering manager I was responsible for managing the electronics being developed for downhole monitoring and control during oil well drilling operations. The technology involves sensors, communication and electromechanical drives. The tools that are being developed, sense the rock formation in the vicinity of the drilling bit and communicate to the surface using either mud pulse telemetry or electromagnetic waves.

Development Team Leader

2005 - 2009
Masterpower Electronics supplies uninterruptible power supplies, DC chargers and motor drives to the Oil and Gas industry. My role, as development team leader, was to manage a small team of software and hardware engineer creating the next range of products for the company. These included switch mode power supplies, high power DC to DC converters, grid tie inverters, thyristor chargers and battery monitoring equipment. I also provided support not only on the current products but also on customer specific applications such as sub-sea power supplies and battery chargers for the railways.Masterpower Electronics was bought by Chloride PLC which has resulted in development activities being curtailed.

Project Team Leader (Avionics Systems)

2003 - 2005
I worked as a team leader for the Gripen Helmet Project. The helmet displays dynamic targeting and flight information to the pilot. My task was to design and manufacture the equipment required to test the helmet. I managed resources, budgets, commercial and technical risks, and time scales for this project. My knowledge of test equipment allowed me to provide hardware and software technical leadership for the six test sets. The test equipment was designed concurrently with the helmet and was available to support the pre-production development.

Senior Electronics Design Engineer (Air Systems)
-
1999 - 2003
I was a member of a team of engineers producing an automatic rig for testing the throttle box of Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft. The equipment moves the handle and measures the force applied, speed and position while monitoring the electrical interface to the throttle box.The role involved supervising the subcontract of the mechanical actuator and designing the interface card between the actuator and an STE bus computer system. The interface used analogue, digital electronics and high-density programmable logic devices. After specifying the software and writing the design documentation, I wrote the high level code for the test set using C++ builder. The hardware and software were integrated and validated.I provided technical help and support for the test sets and addressed problems associated with the production process. The test set won a Chairman’s award for innovation.
