Migration Support Program Volunteer
-
Jun 2013 - Jun 2017
During my time volunteering with the Red Cross I primarily supported the Migration Support Program with support work, program development, youth services and warehousing. In this time I developed a strong understanding of the challenges experienced by people of a refugee and migrant background seeking to resettle in Australia, and skills in working collaboratively with ESL clients. I am proud of my role in forming the foundation of the "In Search of Safety" community education program in the ACT and, after its expansion to a federal level, continued facilitating workshops during my time at Red Cross Victoria. This program was one of the first community education programs, delivered K to 12, that addresses the myths and misunderstandings about the reasons people seek asylum. The program continues as "Community Conversations" - https://www.redcross.org.au/act/community-conversations/ Show less
