Efficient is the phrase that comes to mind when I think about John. John expertly filled the role of Network Engineer for SKY TV for over a year. When the Network Manager position became vacant, John was the ideal candidate. I had the pleasure of working with John for the next 3 years + at SKY TV, collaborating on several projects. I was particularly impressed by John’s ability to effortlessly handle even the toughest challenges. As a team member or a leader, John earns my highest recommendation.

I had the pleasure of having john in my team at Sky TV back in 2014. John joined us as a Senior Design Engineer. He provided invaluable skills and knowledge to the role, enabling the delivery of complex, international facing, time critical projects, including delivery of all network connectivity for local and international sporting events, which are the cornerstone of Sky TV's value proposition to their customers. John is familiar with ITIL Change / Incident / Problem / Release in a complex environment. He was responsible for ensuring all security and availability criteria were met for any network related project. At Sky TV, this was pretty much any project, as broadcast TV, on demand and online services are all dependent on a highly available network environment. When I first interviewed John, I saw him as my likely successor. He has a cool head, is highly intelligent, and has a great personality that stands him above the rest as a leader, a mentor and a manager. When I moved on from Sky TV, John took up the mantle, and continued to grow and develop the network team to deliver, and exceed in, the delivery of their operations and projects. John is a great asset for any business. Good luck in your endeavours, John!

Key Responsibilities:Build and drive the in-house Network Team forward; Support and develop skills in the team helping each member to be the best version of themselves they can, realizing their full potential for the benefit of the company. Drive the Continuous Improvement pipeline, using the Agile, Kan-ban and SaFE methodologies we supported architecture that moved towards cloud first and deployed an early hybrid cloud solution. Develop and optimize ICT processes: adding agility to incident processes and problem management. Improving change management and ensuring that ITIL and Agile processing is used to manage the estate. Achievements:In sourced the Network team and ensured that new staff had broadcast experience; this led the way forward such that Technology ICT started to become a trusted advisory rather than a cost center kept at arm's length. This substantially reduced costs and delivered direct benefit in the move towards OTT service provision and the resulting big data analytics potential.Formalized the design ethic in SKY TV; bringing uniformity to the network design process, ensuring stakeholder involvement and architectural alignment to produce rapid, accurate and informed design in time for customer and architect reviews. Network Design Engineer

Sep 2013 - Nov 2015
Help to develop the architecture and prepare Sky TV for the future focusing on agility, security and resilience.Collaborate closely with PMO and lines of business teams to develop a relationship were all solutions are fit for purpose and meet operational needs at a reasonable cost. Key Achievements:Used the latest technology to deliver the Sochi and Reo Olympic games; the company was used to spending in excess of $150K on a traditional WAN to deliver the games content. I introduced Citrix SD-WAN which removed latency issues and added considerable stability at far reduced costs. This was a ‘hearts and minds’ challenge at all levels and required excellent vendor relationship management. Delivered Milano project to refresh set top boxes and fit a new broadcast headend; this needed good project management within my team of 8 engineers, architectural sympathy and teamwork to get this $110M project designed and implemented. Working with the vendor and many internal SKY TV teams, we got this across the line on time and within budget expectation. Designed and built most of the new OTT platforms at SKY TV; Used Cisco and Citrix skills to build out Neon, new SkyGo, Fan Pass and other OTT systems and sub-systems including Oracle IDM, we also retired old and insecure products such as Igloo.
