I was engaged as an additional electrical engineering resource. The role involved checking modifications to the relay controlled interlock system to the test bay. Commissioning an 11/22kV switchboard, transformers and cabling. Designed and installed the hardwired part of the control system for controlling the switchboard and gathering current and voltage data. Improved a portable PD tester. Provided design drawings using Visio.

Project Engineering Manager for a $600K Front End Engineering Design (FEED) for a biodiesel facility using twenty resources in four different locations in NZ. Carried out the FEED and value engineering study for a $32M coal processing facility consisting of remote I/O, remote safety I/O, instrumentation and all low voltage equipment.Acted as site construction and commissioning manager, writing job hazard analysis documentation and issuing permits for construction staff to work on site. Developed the site induction pack and delivered the training to staff and contractors before working on site.Managed contractors and the client interface for an upgrade to a wine processing facility, including the control system, commissioning of pressure vessels, lifting plans and pipework. Managed the excavation, including pilling for a waste water buffer tank and the interfaces with the district council.Engineered the low voltage electrical system for an extension to the Yolla offshore platform, which required complex electrical interfaces with the existing platform for an Australian client.Engineered the replacement of DC drives with AC VSD’s for starting gas turbines / generators on an offshore platform.Designed the electrical and control interfaces for a new bagging line to a wood processing plant located in a zone 22 area.Managed the engineering resources for designing an earthing system for a 11kV / 400V distribution system. Designed, supervised the installation and commissioned a Rockwell PLC system with over 1200 I/O using remote I/O drops connected over a redundant fibre network. This was connected to a Wonderware SCADA and Historian system in the main control room for use in a $22M wood processing facility. Also engineered all of the low voltage distribution, standby power systems, lighting and the interfaces to both the control system and the safety system.Designed, supervised the installation and commissioned a Sick safety shutdown system to EN954-1 interfacing to multiple MCC’s using Category 3 principles to ensure redundant safety circuits for a spark detection system and a chemical suppressant system as part of a fire prevention system.Specified a CCTV system connected over a fibre network, with monitoring in the control room and computer based recording of images.Project managed, supervised the installation and commissioned a replacement 400V essential services main switchboard / MCC during a challenging shutdown window. Testing of various ABB smart motor controllers, soft starters and MCCB’s, which all communicated via Profibus networks to a central ABB AC800M PLC, which communicated over Ethernet to an ABB 800XA SCADA system. Received a management commendation for this project.Supervision of a team of fifteen multi-disciplined contractors and commissioned the controls for an existing HV Generator upgrade. This involved upgrading a Rockwell PLC; a new server based Wonderware SCADA, specifying new pressure instrumentation, additional hardwired trips, upgrades and interfaces to the HV protection relays using Modbus communications. Received a management commendation for this project.Electrical inspections of various establishments.General project work carried out included conceptual design and budgeting for approval, engineering of work, supervising drafting, organising work contracts and supervision of multi discipline teams and development of graduates. Project managed the CAPEX, specification, installation and commissioning of the following instrumentation and electrical equipment projects: A VSD and PLC solution for the cooling tower fans which resulted in project cost payback within eighteen months. Road Tanker discharge remote telemetry system for a BOC nitrogen storage tank. Chlorine analysing and automatic dosing control system for the Site’s clarified water. Replacement of an acid dosing control system for The Effluent Treatment Plant. Replacement of an underground earth mat with an overhead earthing system using over a kilometre of 120mm2 cable. Interfacing an existing Modicon PLC to the site ABB 800XA SCADA system using Modbus over Ethernet. Improved the PLC control around weight accuracy in filling one and two tonne bags of product, improved overfill from 50kg to consistently less than 1kg. Designed the control loops for a gas powered compressor to monitor the spark detection system to ensure the machine was firing at the correct angle. Replacement of various chlorine and pH analysers in the Water Treatment Plant and Cooling Towers. Created a specification for new two radios to be used in a zone 1 hazardous area. Show less
