Independent Contractor/Wind Electricity Sales
-
Sep 2011 - Present
• As an independent contractor, I sell wind electricity to Maryland businesses and governments. I meet with business owners and local governments, explain the benefits of wind electricity and renewable energy credits, and help them understand the economics, environmental benefits, and green marketing advantages of switching to wind electricity. • As an independent contractor, I sell wind electricity to Maryland businesses and governments. Jul 2005 - Jun 2011
• Managed the conversion of more than 80 of DOE’s Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) websites into a content management system. I was hired to reduce the high number of errors that the project was experiencing at its inception, and successfully developed processes that led to zero errors, and compliments and respect from the National Renewable Energy Laboratory. • Continuously maintained EERE websites. Some, such as Appliances & Commercial Equipment Standards, required immediate updates because of Federal mandates. DOE program managers expressed their gratitude for my flexibility to work evenings and weekends when they needed to have changes made “yesterday.” • I was a principal blogger for the EERE Energy Savers Blog and well respected by NREL and DOE for my vast knowledge of energy practices, technologies, policies, developments, and trends. • As a member of the Consumer Site Working Group, I reviewed EERE’s extensive Energy Savers Consumer website. Energy Awareness Specialist
-
Jan 2003 - Jan 2004
• Implemented the Department of the Navy Energy Awareness Program—which I helped develop from scratch (see below)—perhaps the most successful military energy awareness program and branding initiative, aimed at increasing the knowledge of energy efficiency, conservation, and renewable energy among Navy and Marine Corps personnel and their families; publicizing Navy energy goals and achievements; and developing programs to ultimately change behavior. • Developed communications and outreach materials for Energy Managers to assist them in their efforts to promote energy efficiency and water conservation. • Wrote/placed media releases in Navy, military, energy, and general audience publications. Wrote a monthly newsletter, "energized," distributed to Energy Managers worldwide. • Created and distributed digital Energy Flashes that notified high-level Navy and Marine Corps officials of innovative energy- and water-conserving products/projects and procurement methods. Energy Awareness Specialist

Aug 1996 - Apr 2001
Implemented the Navy Energy Awareness Program, which I helped develop earlier, aimed at increasing the knowledge of energy efficiency, conservation, and renewable energy among Navy and Marine Corps personnel and their families, publicizing the goals and achievements of the Energy Awareness Program, and developing programs to ultimately change behavior. I implemented the program for 6 years. • Developed communications and outreach materials for Energy Managers to assist them in their efforts to promote energy efficiency and water conservation. • Produced Energy Flashes, visually appealing messages posted on a temporary website, and sent e-mails to high-level officials referring them to these electronic messages. Energy Flashes featured innovative energy and water conserving products/projects and procurement methods. • Wrote/placed media releases in Navy, military, energy, and general audience publications. Wrote a monthly newsletter, energized, distributed to Energy Managers worldwide. • Working closely with Navy bases worldwide, developed winning energy award submittals for DOE’s Federal Energy Management Program (FEMP). The Navy and Marine Corps won nearly one-third of all Federal awards in 2003, as well as the prestigious Alliance to Save Energy Star of Energy Efficiency Award and Presidential award for energy management, more than one-third of all Federal awards in 2001, and one of every five Federal awards in 2000! Project Manager

Jun 1987 - Mar 1994
• Managed the Conservation and Renewable Energy Inquiry and Referral Service for the U.S. Department of Energy for 6 years. Responsible for staffing and program and budget planning and implementation. Supervised and trained staff of 10 writers/response analysts/librarian on an on-going basis. Directed the overall production of energy efficiency and renewable energy fact sheets. Oversaw operation of a high-volume, automated clearinghouse. Supervised a monthly media outreach campaign that resulted in the service receiving more than 50,000 inquiries per year. Advised end users on efficient appliances, transportation, renewable energy, recycling, and new construction and retrofit options to save energy and maintain a healthy building environment. We were the DOE voice for consumers and the media. I worked closely with DOE’s national laboratories, and energy analysis, outreach, and advocacy groups (e.g., Alliance to Save Energy, American Council for an Energy Efficient Economy, Florida Solar Energy Center). I was on the Working Group with Oak Ridge National Laboratory as DOE’s representative for the international Center for the Analysis and Dissemination of Demonstrated Energy Technologies (CADDET). • Developed a comprehensive plan for a new energy awareness program for Navy shore facilities nationwide. This study included data analysis to identify the areas where the Navy was consuming the most energy and which Navy activities were meeting their mandated energy reduction goals. • Conducted two studies for the Bonneville Power Administration (BPA): 1) I investigated numerous BPA recycling options and use of materials with recycled content to assist BPA in incorporating recycling and the purchase of recycled-content materials into their demand-side-management programs. 2) I examined the environmental considerations of 41 residential energy conservation measures.
