Dementias Platform UK (DPUK) is a partnership between 26 public and private sector organisations, funded by the Medical Research Council. Based at Oxford University, we bring together expertise from universities, charities, and pharma and tech companies to enable crucial breakthroughs in dementia research. Dementia is one of the leading causes of death worldwide. It affects around 50 million people globally, with nearly a million cases in the UK alone. Yet, to date, there are no effective treatments. We are determined to help change that. By providing researchers and drug companies with access to the latest data, technologies and research opportunities – in a non-competitive environment – we bridge the gap between discoveries in the lab and successful trials of new treatments. We focus our attention on three key, human-centred areas in our quest to untangle the complexities of dementia and accelerate progress in research. Those areas are: Our repository of dementia-optimised health research data (DPUK Data Portal) Our engine for matching public volunteers to the most appropriate new research studies (Trials Delivery Framework) Our programme of cutting-edge experimental studies (Experimental Medicine Incubator) Together, these workstreams will help researchers identify the early signs of disease and support the translation of scientific discoveries into the new treatments and preventive strategies that the world so badly needs.
